Category: | Seminar |

Description: | Tune in online on Tuesday, July 14th at 12pm EDT to hear Thomas White's presentation on CrystFEL, a data processing suite for data acquired "serially".Research Scientist Center for Free-Electron Laser Science Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY) Hamburg, Germany Host: Jason Key Thomas White's presentation on CrystFEL, data processing software for use with data acquired "serially". Dr. White is a Research Scientist at the Center for Free-Electron Laser Science at the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY) in Hamburg, Germany.CrystFEL is a suite of programs for processing data from serial crystallography experiments, and also includes programs for tasks such as simulating data for test purposes. "Serial crystallography" is the name which has been given to a recently emerging way of conducting structural studies of matter, especially biomolecules, by irradiating a series of small crystals with intense X-ray pulses and recording only one diffraction pattern per crystal. This contrasts with the conventional method of performing such experiments, where a single crystal or a small number of crystals are used, and a rotation series of diffraction patterns recorded. The "serial" methodology introduces some unique data processing challenges, which CrystFEL has been developed to address. This webinar will demonstrate CrystFEL in action on a real data set from a free-electron laser X-ray source. Read more about CrystFEL on the website.
