Single Particle Workshop January 9th

The STC will hold a Single Particle Sample Delivery Workshop organized by Uwe Weierstall (ASU) and Rick Kirian (ASU).  There will be a full day workshop.  BioXFEL Members and UPR students may attend at no cost and will have an the additional night of January 8th at Caesar's covered.  This workshop is open to all interested parties.

XFEL-based single-particle imaging techniques hold the potential to reveal the high-resolution structures of non-crystalline bioparticles such as proteins and viruses, including dynamical systems on fast timescales.  Along with algorithmic developments, great progress has been made over the last decade to continuously improve data collection rates and data quality.  Nonetheless, the widespread application of this technique will require significant improvements to the quality of samples delivered to nano-focused x-ray beams, the efficiency of sample delivery, and reductions in the level of background scatter.  This workshop consists of a series of presentations by specialists in the field, that aim to outline the present challenges and to showcase recent progress in single-particle imaging.

Confirmed speakers include:

Matthias Frank (LLNL)

Johan Bielecki (Uppsala University)

Jochen Kupper (CFEL)

Carolin Seuring (DESY)

Andrei Rode (Australian National University)

Charlotte Uetrecht (XFEL)

Andy Aquila (SLAC)

Jake Koralek (SLAC)

Filipe Maia (Uppsala University)
