The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM), a research intensive premier public urban university committed to academic excellence, is located in the commercial and industrial hub of Wisconsin.

UW-Milwaukee is one of the two “doctoral cluster” campuses in the University of Wisconsin System with a student enrollment close to 24,000. The Department of Physics provides undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral education. The Department is comprised of 19 faculty members, 20 academic staff, 11 postdoctoral associates, 8 university staff, 54 graduate students and numerous undergraduate majors. The Department is the largest source of external research funding on campus, and is housed in the Kenwood Interdisciplinary Research Complex, one of the most modern structures at the university.

The Position

The Department of Physics at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) invites applications for a tenure-track ASSISTANT PROFESSOR position in data- driven analysis of biophysical systems to start in Fall 2022. We seek an outstanding candidate with a strong record of research in the development of advanced algorithms for the study of the structure and dynamics of biophysical systems. This appointee will collaborate with the NSF Science and Technology Center “Biology with X-Ray Lasers.”

The successful candidate is expected to establish a vigorous, extramurally funded research program, train students (undergraduate, M.S., and Ph.D.) and postdoctoral associates, and contribute to the Physics curriculum, including courses in advanced data-driven techniques. We encourage applications from members of groups that are typically under-represented in science.

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in Physics or closely related field.

  • Postdoctoral Experience.

  • Expertise in data analysis in advanced methods of X-ray scattering or

    cryogenic electron microscopy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with X-Ray scattering or cryogenic electron data types.

  • Experience with cluster computing.
